About the Artist
[the short & sweet]
Hi y'all! I'm Elizabeth- Liz to many of my friends- and I've been pursuing photography as as storytelling medium & artistic outlet for over a decade now. I started out borrowing my mom's camera for family holidays & backyard expeditions to contribute to my annual scrapbooks, and continued to hone my eye for images through art classes, extracurricular positions, & eventually my very own DSLR Canon camera. I've been growing my style, skills, & portfolio over the past few years, and am enjoying the new challenge of using my unique lens to connect with the DMV community in new & collaborative ways!
Chasing God, Golden Hours, & Good Gatherings
[the scenic route]
Before we frame your story, it's only fair to let you in on mine: I’m Georgia born, NoVa raised, and currently reside in the lovely little town of Vienna, VA in a house unofficially dubbed "The Vine" (John 15:5) with a couple of amazing gals. My day job is in the development office at Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, and one thing you won't go very long without finding out about me is that I'm a Wahoo through & through! In my spare time I enjoy baking, gardening, singing, barre class, vineyard hopping, and color coding my calendar. If you want to learn more about my professional resumé & view portfolios in other disciplines, feel free to hop over to my personal site.

The main three lenses through which I tend to view my personal and photographic philosophies are my continual search for God, golden hours, and good gatherings:

Chasing God
My faith is the driving factor in all my personal and creative endeavors. The Lord has not only given me an eye for aesthetics, but has also placed a calling in my heart to glorify Him through appreciating & contributing to the beauty of the earth. Any and all beauty that exists flows directly from the goodness of God; it is a privilege & gift for humans to reflect that aspect of the Imago Dei by participating in the work of making all things bright & beautiful as we strive towards the eternal Kingdom of Heaven. The verse that I always go back to when I need to slow down and re-center my priorities is this:

One thing have I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire in his temple.
Psalm 27:4

In my vocation as a photographer, this outlook often shows up in the form of my astute attention to details, intentional selection of scenery, and the desire to capture the inner beauty as much as the external. Taking a step back and looking at the world through my camera lens is one of the ways that I feel closest to my Creator. I also see photographs as modern "ebenezers", or markers, which can serve to remind us of the Lord's faithfulness throughout generations as we look back at them and recall where we were in that snapshot and how far He has carried us since. I could go on about the correlations I've discovered between art & faith, so I'll leave it here for now- but I'd love to discuss the topic with you in depth over a latte one day!

Chasing Golden Hours
The way the whole world glows during the brief windows of sunrise and sunset brings a sense of utter peace, contentment, and awe to my heart. Finding and maximizing these minutes of soft, golden rays often results in my favorite frames. While not every photo can be taken within these optimal hours, I still tend to base the majority of my compositions around the sky, making the most of each angle of the sun. Of course I'm happy to work with indoor lighting in the appropriate context, but it is no secret that shooting in natural light is where I have the most fun! In tandem with my gravitation towards organic lighting, my editing style also tends to lean towards a lifelike color palette; I aim to retain the vibrancy and brightness of a scene without over-exaggerating or filtering to a default mood setting.

Chasing Good Gatherings
I never pass up an excuse to throw a party! Whether the occasion is as obscure as the Autumnal Equinox or as traditional as Easter brunch, I always seize the opportunity to gather people in celebration for food, fun, and fellowship. Facilitating and deepening friendships around a table (or ten) through a shared meal, meaningful conversation, and genuine laughter is part of the abundant life we are called to live. I'm quite in my element when playing hostess, and revel in planning all the little touches to make people feel welcomed & seen. Through my own hospitality experience, I have the eye to recognize the shots that will sum up the ambiance and focal points of an event with a mix of candid & posed takes.
I look forward to building close relationships with my clients because 1) a foundation of trust will certainly yield images with the most integrity, and 2) my friends are my most frequent photography subjects, so it stands to reason that my subjects often become my friends, too! I am truly honored whenever I get an intimate glimpse into another set of unique relationships through my lens, making stills of those memorable moments for others so that they can be fully present with their people.
